MetisFirstNation.ca began with MontagnaisMetisFirstNation.ca in 2012. The change was necessary due to a much diversified international membership.

The name expressively describes our heritage: We are descendants of Wiisaakode "half breed" North American peoples.

Our genealogy and origins are verified by historical and DNA documentation.

Despite the unwarranted discrimination from nay-sayers and trolls who have consistently denied our existence, we are steadfast!

We cannot deny 40,000 years of Indigenous ancestry in our genes, nor our chosen commitment to honour this great heritage.

We do not live in Europe, we live on our indigenous ancestral lands!

We are indigenous under Canadian law, again despite government stonewalling and nay-sayer denial!

The Supreme Court of Canada acknowledged our mixed "Metis" descendant status in the 2016 Daniels vs the Queen decision.

Unfortunately, due to the Powley decision in 2003, mixed people have been unfairly separated by a colonial rule that says we must have had an ancestor in a "mixed" community created before European control to identify as a rights-bearing "Metis" under section 35 of the Canadian constitution.

The truth is all indigenous people are now mixed from several centuries of settler interrelationships resulting in a congruous people artificially separated by colonial jurisprudence!

............. Our ancestors originated from "Indian" communities before European control! So where is the hereditary illegitimacy?
